spreading the news of the game

In each of the eight league cities there are business men who, by a system of exchange, have arranged for the earliest possible intelligence. Upon the Worcester ball field yesterday there was a youth who, at the conclusion of each inning, ran to the telephone and informed the down-town agent of the result of the inning, who immediately telegraphed the news to Soper [in Detroit]. He...bulletined the same for the benefit of the public. And that wasn’t all. Over in one corner of the store a boy was kept busy answering telephone calls from all parts of the city, and as his answer was invariably “Ten to three in favor of Detroit,” it is a fair presumption that there was a similarity in the questions asked.
