Text | [from answers to correspondents] In a match game a pitcher pitches the ball directly upwards, catches it himself, and throws it to a base to which a man is running: the man is touched and the umpire judges him out. Was the umpire’s decision correct? No. It is a decided balk, and of course the player was not out. |
